Women’s Chorus Presents Laurel House with Special Gift for New Shelter LANSDALE, Pennsylvania – The Liberty Belles Chorus of Lansdale PA donated $1050 in gift cards to Laurel House, in celebration of the anticipated opening of Laurel House’s new Safe Haven Center. The chorus presented the donation as a special house-warming gift – the gift cards were part of an art project that was created by Liberty Belles chorus member Jordie Compton of Shooting Starr Studio. Laurel House provides shelter and support to women and children who have been impacted by domestic violence. Their new center, which opens later this Fall in Lansdale, will be closer to public transportation, job training opportunities, and other community resources. According to their website, “this new, secure, and easily accessible facility will house our emergency shelter, which is the only one in the county, as well as some of our supportive services for domestic violence victims and their children.” The Liberty Belles Chorus is a chapter of Harmony Inc., a non-profit international organization whose mission is to “Empower all women through education, friendship, and singing.” As such, they have made it their mission to contribute to local charities like Laurel House. The whole of their donation is comprised of money given by the individual chorus members. The donation, which was presented to Laurel House on Friday September 17th, includes 36 gift cards, which will be distributed to the families of Laurel House. To learn more about Laurel House’s new Safe Haven Center, or for information on how to make a donation, visit laurel-house.org/capital-campaign/. |

LANSDALE, Pennsylvania – The Liberty Belles Chorus, like many others, became a virtual chorus in March 2020, due to the restrictions put on large gatherings. While this of course has had its challenges, they have continued their weekly rehearsals (via Zoom), welcomed many guest singers over the months, and have increased their membership by 10%. “It’s actually easier for some people to come to a virtual rehearsal rather than walking into a room full of people and sing,” says Nancy Weisbein, President and Membership Chair for The Liberty Belles. Speaking from her own personal experience, Weisbein went on to explain “As an introvert … it was very hard for me to walk in the door to start my journey with the Belles. Somehow, everyone helped me feel comfortable and confident that I belonged there. I’m glad I was able to do an in person rehearsal, but virtual probably makes a lot of people feel empowered to step into the Belles family.” During a year where people have spent a great deal of time in isolation, it has motivated them to seek out online groups where they can connect with people who have shared interests and goals. In addition to connection on a virtual level, many choruses have also found that it is important to remain “in touch” with their members on a personal level. Some choruses, such as The Liberty Belles, stay connected by adding social time to their rehearsals, or by contacting individual members via phone or handwritten letters. Thank you to all who contributed to the success of our wonderful Spring Show - That Radio Show from the 1959! Both Friday night and Saturday Matinee shows were well attended in our new venue, Souderton Mennonite Church. The atmosphere in the sanctuary was warm, with great accoustics, comfy bench seating and plenty of stage space for our Liberty Belles and North Pennsmen ensembles. Our wonderful support auxiliary, the Pennettes, did a great job in the front of the house with their usual friedly greetings and homemade breads for everyone to purchase. There were plenty of Door prizes and much to look through about our rich ensembles' history, all on display in the front lobby. The Liberty Belles will now be preparing for our Area 3 contest in Liverpool, NY, on May 3-4. Please keep following our progress and join us at one of our Monday rehearsals!
